How to get to Cluj-Napoca?
Cluj-Napoca is the historical capital of Transylvania and it is one of the most visited cities in Romania. Getting to Cluj-Napoca is very easy. You can come by plane, train, bus or car.
By Plane
The International Someşeni Airport of Cluj-Napoca is offering:
International flight connections from/to: UK (London) Austria (Vienna); Germany (Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart); Hungary (Budapest); France (Paris); Spain (Madrid, Barcelona); Italy (Ancona, Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Napoli, Rome, Torino, Treviso, Venice, Verona); Greece (Athens); Ukraine (Lvov).
Domestic flight: Romania (Bucharest, Timisoara, etc.).
Flights are provided by TAROM, Austrian, Lufthansa, Germanwings, Iberia, Alitalia, Carpatair, Malev and WizzAir.
For low cost flights you can use WizzAir or Germanwings.
For European travelers, a budget alternative is to fly to Budapest Ferihegy Airport with a low-cost company, and then shuttle to Cluj-Napoca. The shuttle takes six to eight hours to make the travel. You can find shuttles from early morning till late night. Reservations have to be made in advance, make sure you leave at least two hours between your flight arrival and the departure of the shuttle, to account for any flight delays. Prices are around 60 to 80 RON (20 Euro).
The Airport of Cluj-Napoca has transport connections to downtown Cluj-Napoca. To get there, travelers can choose between car rentals, taxi, limo service and public transport (bus line 8 running from 5:30 AM till midnight).

There are daily InterCity (Express) trains connecting Cluj-Napoca with Bucharest (journey time: 8 hours), Brasov (journey time: 5 hours), Medias (journey time: 2 ¾ hours), Sighisoara (journey time: 3 ½ hours), Oradea (journey time: 2 ¼ hours) and Timisoara (journey time: 5 hours).

International buses:
Cluj-Napoca can be reached by bus from a number of major European cities, most notably Budapest (journey time: 6-8 hours). Tickets are around 20 Euro.
Domestic buses:
Cluj-Napoca can be reached by bus from all major cities of Romania (Bucharest, Oradea, Timisoara, Arad, Brasov, Sighisoara, Ploiesti, etc.). A journey from/to Bucharest costs around 20 Euro and it takes 6-8 hours, similar to a journey from/to Budapest.
